The Stella Project was a series of interconnected socially engaged performance events, designed to unlock value in the creative process for both artists and publics. The project was framed with the goal of devising a new version of a classic text to present as a professional production in London. For the process, I assembled partnerships with over twenty community groups, professional arts organisations, universities, conferences and funders in the US and the UK. Eight layers of intentional social engagement unfolded as interconnected strands of practice including international live and online open rehearsals with community groups in the US and UK, with participants impacting the devising process; interdisciplinary artistic collaborations; Storystation installations at diverse locations internationally, with the stories being used in the devising process; publication in “Choreography of Negotiation” in Dancing at the Crossroads (American Bar Association publication, 2013), and more.
